TROPICANA FIELD
TROPICANA FIELD HISTORY
TROPICANA FIELD
(baseball capacity 38,437)
St. Petersburg,
Florida
Park opened March 1998.
The domed facility opened in 1990 but did not have a tenant until
the NHL moved a team there in 1993.
Rumors that a major league team would move to the dome never
materialized. In 1995 an
expansion franchise was awarded to the area.
Baseball finally arrived at the facility in 1998 as Tampa Bay
opened against the Tigers.
Tampa Bay’s Wade Boggs homered to collect his 3000th career
hit on 8-7-1999.
